2017 and the Monthly Look Ahead!

I’m late again! “Better late than never!” tends to be my recurring mantra, for quite some time now… I could add to my usual excuse of ongoing ill health to those frustrating tech difficulties that I’ve wasted so much time on lately! I could have set up my new toy, but want to be awake and concentrating well when I do! I set this thing up in a fuzzy haze and it hasn’t helped – but then Windows10 is less clear than 98/XP were for administrative and security settings and seems to want to auto-control things. Probably just me not really sussing it better yet.

Getting back to more blogging interaction!

My blogs are in quite a shoddy mess, and need some #blogging101 refreshing! Underway, whenever…

I managed a little blog reading and interaction recently from my now aging mobile phone – but isn’t technology made so quickly obsolete these days! I’m very much regretting not just being able to hook up my old Windows98 machine to what should have been ‘lifetime free dial-up’ from my ISP. but that was back in the day, and my phone line only rings on the system with the line to the house not working for just over 18months now while I continue to pay for lack of service! Now they have a mobile accessible customer service number, only found yesterday, very easily from my mobile phone internet browsing, I can give them a call, sometime this month, as soon as I can get a stable mobile signal indoors! It’s been more than a bit frustrating because it’s not like I haven’t reported it as not working several times already!

My wifi was working fine too, until I was cajoled by my ISP’s failing customer service rep to agree to a broadband speed upgrade. I don’t know how many times I told them I use very little actually and need less not more. I also wasn’t aware they’d charge more money almost immediately for this ‘free’ upgrade, nor that I’ve have wifi access issues since, nor that they’d restart my cancelled direct debit without my permission while still depriving me of services!

I was planning to switch services because there was an old style telephone line to my house and hey presto someone appears to have removed that wire! Maybe around the same time as someone appears to have stolen the lead mantel from above my neighbour’s front window. Someone somewhere has been desperate for the revenue from scrap metal! Not having a fence and open access to the yards is a problem because thieving intruders don’t see it as trespass while committing such theft! Don’t suggest the police, they do nothing much mostly and have bigger to fish to fry, if only they could get the staff!

Anyway, as soon as it occurred to me to slightly move my router, have it tipped at an odd angle by balancing it against a partially open drawer front(!) and that seems to have made it better again! But it was fine before as it was! So maybe my old router unit doesn’t like the up-to-the-minute-souped-up-speeds!

sOk, so a customer service complaint call to my ISP has to take priority this month. Alongside finding a way to pay an outstanding bill to my local authority while they’ve provided no way of making a payment other than by plastic and I’ve still not found mine again since the day it flew out of hand at home and became buried somewhere in i don’t know where! Did I pick it up again and hide it in a book? Or has it misplaced itself in one of those boxes of who knows what that I shuffled round and made inaccessible during the mad throes of fever and mild delirium a few weeks before Christmas?

I guess a replacement card request to my bank is gonna be the quickest most painless way of resolving that one! Hopefully the postal service make sure to deliver it all the way through the letterbox. At times they’ve been routinely followed by leaflet delivery people taking stuck letters away from the letterbox! Trying to be up and around while the mail-man delivers at whatever varying time that might be…!

It’s a lovely place where I live honestly! I need to appreciate and enjoy it more!

But the last few years England has been plunging further back into the dark ages. Society /the general public has been being stirred up into a whirring mess of class divisions, racial and religious hatreds and some desperate deprived people are having to resort to desperate measures to ‘earn a living’. Or so it seems if it’s back to encountering all this petty thievery that goes on. It’s about the same with every Tory government! If only a ‘vote of no confidence’ in the government would yield any progress! A 2020 election seems a very long and dreary way off before there’ll be any hope of improvement. By then we’ll have had the entirely bogus Brexit inflicted on us and all the negative impacts that are bound to arise from that – and the incoming changes in the US look hellishly scary too! They even tried to say our Queen is gonna be head of state over there in what just has to be a hoax news story! Crazy! And Buckingham palace needs almost £350million to ‘upgrade infrastructure’ or to pay extortion demands alike those he’s made to other international leaders? Crazy times!

It’s always ‘swings and roundabouts’ in politics just as anything other elitist hierarchial unlevel ‘field’, ‘six of one and half dozen of the other’. And heaven forbid we’d get the likes of Yvette Cooper fronting the opposition! (she’s as ‘Tory-boy’ as any of the other side!) But that’s another tale to avoid!

Anyway, I really should avoid politics, because I don’t understand it and even trying to makes living a nightmare! But as it involves and impacts on everyday things, it is an impossible mission to even try to avoid the beast ‘IT’ is… I was tempted to put that last word in capitals but had best not!

Ok, I’m having a rant, but I don’t watch TV and don’t get out to buy a newspaper, book or anything much else enough. And of course I can’t enact paying anything online without that bit of plastic because very stupidly I didn’t even write down the necessary numbers! Doh! Then instead I could have been reading or making more of anything else from the piles or the virtual stacks, or trying some baking, or anything else I’ll excuse myself for not picking up from since last time I made a MLA post!

More family time then? Well, paying for taxis in summer is viable but electricity in winter is quite a cost. They all have busy lives anyway and my current ongoing illness is likely to have some slightly infectious recurring phases and has kind of ‘knocked me for six’ a bit. Unpredictable at the best of times now with increased odds. Any sense of routine I’d just about managed to achieve has been so disrupted these recent months. Building up with blogging is again the only way to go forward from here!

My most recent non-dominant hand doodle, the direction defies the intention … never mind, more wishful thinking…! Beware, those buttons don’t work either!

Oh and I barely even made a start with #ModPo in the autumn so heading back over to Coursera sometime soon enough to really enjoy it via the #SloPo season. Then by next time it presents in the full-on ‘seminar’ phase, I hope to really have got my teeth into the materials and be wearing my thinking cap well enough to take part again. Cos I so almost earned that certificate the first time round and so it was a bit daft not getting it back then, but I really want to feel like I learnt enough to earn it and not just have the boxes ticked.

I’m still celebrating achieving the Walt Whitman Civil War Writings mooc last August and not really ‘on a downer’ although ranting so much might read as if…

Getting things out of my system differently would be a good way to move forward too. But not everyone appreciates odd impulsive bursts of improvised percussion and the like! Occasionally I have been known to be energetic enough a little. I even had a kick about with a couple of kids by gatecrashing their soccer game on our street recently. Just the once, for a little while.

I’m hoping to pick up on some exploratory #Shakespeare401 appreciation too, in this last third/quarter of the year long 400years celebration announced last Spring on Blogger’s World from then resident instigator WanderingSoul. Although she’s busy with other projects now, her support for the forum has been much appreciated. And the events she suggested were such a great idea that it’d be nice to maybe revisit and build on some of them. Over time, not in a rush, heading for around the 401st anniversary date as a ‘completion’ timeframe/ongoing. For now, I leave you with this, in retrospect, tweeted from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (link at left goes to their website homepage, click below to visit/follow their twitter feed)…
